After ‘Gulabo Sitabo‘, Vidya Balan starrer ‘Shakuntala Devi’ will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
Both these movies were earlier scheduled for a box office release, but the ongoing coronavirus lockdown that came into effect in March end and seems to have no end in sight, have begun to give producers second thoughts and they see it as a wise decision to use OTT platforms to keep their business going on.
Talking about Shakuntala Devi, it is directed by Anu Menon and is a biopic based on the life of the legendary mathematician with the same name. Shakuntala Devi also stars Sanya Malhotra as Vidya’s onscreen daughter featuring Amit Sadh and Jisshu Sengupta in pivotal roles.
The official social media pages of Amazon Prime Video announced that the film will be coming soon. And we are required to wait in order to see the official releasing date of Shakuntala Devi.
The streaming platform captioned the video with the words,
“She has a solution for everything, literally! #ShakuntalaDevi coming soon! #ShakuntalaDeviOnPrime #WorldPremiereOnPrime @balanvidya @sanyamalhotra_ @theamitsadh @senguptajisshu @directormenon #VikramMalhotra @nayanikawrites @misschamko @abundantiaent @sonypicsprodns”.

Talking to media, director Anu stated,
“Shakuntala Devi’s passion for maths and her determination to spread its joy to the world was unparalleled. She lived ahead of her times and on her terms – and as we all strive to change the narrative of the female protagonist on-screen, her story is one that calls out to be told! And there’s no one better than Vidya Balan to capture Shakuntala’s wit and wisdom! I’m so excited that the film will have its world premiere on Amazon Prime Video and everyone will get to experience Shakuntala’s incredible journey and Vidya’s magical portrayal of her soon!”
On the other hand. Sanya who plays Anupama Banerjee had earlier said,
“My character in Shakuntala Devi is based on a real person, her daughter Anupama Banerjee. I believe that 70% of our job is done by the makeup and hair department. With the look in place, I got into her shoes easily. My director, too, helped me a lot to understand my character in the movie.”
