The reports of Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan coming together for a remake of the super hit film, Coolie No. 1 had been doing the rounds since long now. Sara Ali Khan who made her Bollywood debut in 2018 with Kedarnath opposite Sushant Singh Rajput has become a fan favourite in such a little time that she has offers from big filmmakers pouring down.
After several rumors of Sara starring opposite Varun in this modern adaptation of the film, on Varun’s birthday, the makers made an official announcement confirming the reports and informing that the shoot of the movie would begin in August. They sent out a statement which reads,
“It’s official… After 25 years David Dhawan and Vashu Bhagnani come back together to adapt their timeless comedy, ‘Coolie No 1’. The film starring Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan begins shoot this August,”
Earlier, the writer of the movie Farhad Samji too had confirmed Sara’s involvement in the film by revealing that in this film, he would be working with her the second time. He had said,
“It is a boon for any writer to work with a dedicated actor like Varun. I narrated the dialogue draft to him recently and he immediately asked me for a copy, so he could rehearse his lines even though there is still time for the film to go on the floors. I am looking forward to teaming up with Sara for the second time.”
The original Coolie No. 1 had Govinda and Karishma Kapoor in the lead role and the makers were looking for a fresh pairing for this one, so, Sara’s name popped up. As she has been doing better with each of her performances and can match Karishma’s crazy very well on screen, the makers thought she would be perfect for the role.
A source had earlier informed,
“Varun and Sara will share screen space in the former’s first home production. It will be directed by David Dhawan, who had also helmed the original. This will be the first film to roll out under their banner The One Entertainment. The team wanted a new jodi for the comedy and the Dhawans felt Sara would be apt for it.”
The two of them will share the screen space for the first time and by the looks of it, they both are goofy and super energetic, exactly what a comedy script like this demands. So, we think the casting bit is perfect and they will fire up the screens with their comic timing and energy.
Varun’s last outing Kalank garnered fairly mixed reviews both from the audience and the critics, but his and Alia’s performances have been hugely appreciated. He would be next seen in Remo D’Souza’s Street Dancer 3D opposite Shraddha Kapoor which is the third installment of the popular dance movie franchise ABCD: Anybody Can Dance.
On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan is currently busy shooting for her upcoming Imtiaz Ali film, tentatively titled Aaj Kal, the sequel to 2009 blockbuster Love Aaj Kal. She would be romancing Kartik Aaryan for the first time in this one. The first look is out and the fans are eagerly waiting for the movie to release.
