Here’s How Varun Dhawan Reacted on Replacing Shah Rukh Khan in Kalank

And the most anticipated film of this time, Kalank has a new update. The trailer of the film Kalank has been released yesterday and the whole star cast of the film unveiled it. At the trailer launch event, while interacting with the media, Varun Dhawan responded to the questions regarding him replacing Shah Rukh Khan in Kalank. Varun told the media persons that he was well aware that the first choice for the lead of the film was Shah Rukh Khan but he did not have any discussions about the project with the superstar after he came onboard.

For the ignorant, this periodic epic drama initially was supposed to feature Shah Rukh along with a rumored cast of Kajol, Rani Mukherjee, and Ajay Devgn, among others. Varun Dhawan told the reporters,

“Honestly, I never spoke to him on how I should approach the role. I was aware that Shah Rukh sir and the other star cast was supposed to do the film. At that time, Karan was going to direct it and Mr. Yash Johar was producing it,”

The actor also shared that Karan Johar, who is producing the film had actually discarded the idea to direct the film and did not wish to revisit the story after his father, Yash Johar died. Kalank is directed by Abhishek Varman and Varun also revealed that the director used to be his roommate during the shoots of ‘My Name is Khan’ when they both worked as assistant directors. The actor said,

“Abhishek had told me how Karan narrated the story to him. At that time, no one would’ve imagined that he will direct it someday and I will act in it,”

Moreover, Varun further told that he recently met Shah Rukh Khan after the teaser of the film came out.

“He had seen the teaser and I had asked him for his opinion. He had some good things to say about that. He was happy too when I told him I applied ‘soorma’ (Cohl). He smiled at me and said ‘good, you’re working hard and doing these roles’. These are roles that will get you closer to the audience’,” he said.

Talking about the film, Kalank is a period drama set in 1945 in the pre-independence British era. The film features an ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur. It is scheduled to release on April 17, 2019.
