Unstoppable ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ Grabs No. 2 Spot at IMDb’s List of Top Rated Hindi Movies of All Times

Even after more than a month of its release, Uri: The Surgical Strike is still running strong at the box office. Once out of the theatres, everybody knew the movie will go on to be a blockbuster but it would gain such high momentum, nobody had actually thought about that. Currently, the movie has crossed the 200 crore mark in its box office earnings and it is rejoicing its dream run. The movie, easily and without a doubt, has been announced to be the first blockbuster of the year.

This Vicky Kaushal starrer movie made him a star. His dialogue from the movie, ‘How’s The Josh’ has caught extreme attention that we have several merchandises available online for sale. Among all of this huge hype, the movie has added another feather to the already shining hat. The movie has bagged the 2nd Position in IMDb’s List of Top Rated Hindi Movies of All Times, behind only one, Rajesh Khanna’s Anand.

The movie has beaten excellent movies like Dangal, 3 Idiots, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Rang De Basanti, Queen and many others to grab the place that they rightly deserve. In its almost 45 day run at the theatres, this medium budgeted movie has collected near 230 crores which is no less than a successful feat for a film of this genre in India, with no big star to helm it on their shoulders.

Before the release of this movie, Vicky Kaushal who played Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, in an interview with Scroll.in, talked about the pressure, for whom apparently this was the first commercial release. He said,

“I have been craving this kind of pressure in order to gauge whether I am able to carry a film on my shoulders or not,” Kaushal told Scroll.in. “We are really proud of this content and have made it with complete honesty.”

He added that he is a greedy actor who likes to keep himself enthusiastic for all his movies.

“Every film feels like a first film, and it should feel new,” he said. “If you begin to feel jaded then you are not alive as an actor.”

The movie is inspired by true events of the 2016 Uri camp attack, and how India in retaliation to the cowardly attack gave back with a successful surgical strike with no casualties. Talking about what actually pulled him to take up the role, he said,

“The script had me hooked and I was affected by the story,” he said. “It made me realise the valour and sacrifices of the armed forces. It made me feel patriotic. At some point during one’s formative years, every kid feels like he wants to join the army. I also had that feeling during my childhood. And I felt that way after reading this story too.”

The honesty with which the movie has been made gets translated to the screen and this is one of the reasons why this movie garnered not only the commercial success but also has been appreciated by critics alike.

The movie released on January 11, 2019. It stars Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal and Mohit Rana in pivotal roles along with Vicky Kaushal. It is produced under Ronnie Screwvala’s production house, RSVP productions and is directed by Aditya Dhar.
