5 Times India Got Gold Back Home

There’s no greater pride in sport than to see your country’s flag being hoisted on an international stage. That sentiment gets amplified, when it’s India’s Tiranga flying high across a clear sky.  Instilling a sense of national pride in the heart of us Indians, we bring you 5 such times when we couldn’t be any more proud of our country than we already are.

1. Summer Olympics, 1948

India’s hockey team brought home its first gold medal after facing several obstacles at the Summer Olympics officially known as the Games of the XIV Olympiad in 1948. Inspired by this win, Zee Cinema will premiere the national sports drama ‘Gold’ on 28th October at 8pm

 

2. Sydney Olympics, 2000

Standing out from all the wins was Karnam Malleswari who won a bronze medal at the Sydney Olympics (famously known as Games of the XXVII Olympiad) in the Women’s 69 kg category in Weightlifting

 

3. Asian Games, 2018

The 2018 Asian Games turned out to be the best year for the Indian team. With a total of 15 gold medals, 24 silver and 30 bronze, the Indian team made us proud

4. International Physics Olympiad, 2018

After competing with 400 individuals from 85 countries, the five participating students from India created history by bagging gold medals in the 49th International Physics Olympiad this year

5. Commonwealth Games, 2018

The 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast, Australia led to many firsts for India. In eight days, the Indian contingent won a total of 26 gold, 20 silver, and 20 bronze medals bringing home 66 medals in total
