Sunil Grover is a household name as a comedian who is a brand of his own with his act as Gutthi or idiosyncratic Dr. Mashoor Gulati in The Kapil Sharma Show. Moreover, his subsequent fallout with Kapil Sharma did grab a lot of attention, but it didn’t put a dent on his popularity. In fact, after he opted out of Kapil’s show, Salman chose to promote his film Tubelight (2017) with a special two-hour program hosted by the former and skipped going on the Kapil’s show. And now, in Bharat, he will be seen alongside Salman in a major role i.e. his on-screen friend.
Salman was all in praises for him during a recent public interaction. He said,
“Sunil is one of the most talented actors I have seen so far. He doesn’t do mimicry. He gets into the character and plays it. So, if you see him as Gutthi or Dr Mashoor Gulati and the way he imitates Mr Bachchan or Dharamji, he’s not hitting below the belt and he’s not trying to do comedy, he’s actually a fan and he plays their characters to the T.”
Salman even revealed that this original comedy of Sunil forced him to choose latter for Bharat’s cast. To this Sunil replied,
“The team of Bharat offered me the role. Salman sir has always been nice and cordial with me, and complimented me. And now, it feels wonderful to be part of a film like Bharat with such a big star. Actually, I feel lucky.”
He further shared,
“I felt intimidated because he has such an aura, he is a big star! So, initially it was difficult to work with him as an actor.” And if you are wondering how he broke the barrier, it was by partying and hanging out with him! “We had a couple of parties. Party karke raat ko baithke baatein karte the! Those were our workshops.”
On Kat, Sunil shared that she is a live wire.
“When she is there, she is talking and laughing. But she is hardworking and passionate about her work,”
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bharat will release on June 5.
