The biopic on this boxing champion will be directed by Raja Krishnan Menon who made films like Chef and Airlift and the film starring Shahid Kapoor is expected to release in 2019 in the month of April.

Talking about the legendary boxer Dingko Singh, he is from Manipur and was the first and the only Indian boxer who won a gold medal in the Bantamweight category. He is an inspiration to many boxers of the country and has made the whole country proud. He is so passionate about boxing that he also is one of the many sportspersons who has been awarded the Padma Shri.

Shahid Kapoor loved this project and he would love to be a part of this film. Shahid also stated that the thing he loved about this story is that it is one of those superstars who is not that famous and people don’t know much about him. According to the reports of DNA, Shahid Kapoor said,

“The thing that I loved about this story is that he is one of those superstars who we don’t know much about. If a film like Dangal (2016) wasn’t made, we wouldn’t know as much about the Phogat sisters. Dingko is a cancer survivor, and he went through 13 rounds of chemotherapy. He has even gone on to say that his biggest win was surviving cancer and not the gold medal he won at the age of 19 at the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok.”

Shahid Kapoor discussed more on his situation at that time and he also told that Gautam Gambhir became aware of this situation in the year 2017 and sent money for his treatment. He also said that at some point in his life, Dingko also became a Naxalite. Shahid Kapoor expressed his excitement to work in this biopic and he told that the life story of Dingko is just unbelievable and it is going to touch the hearts of all the Bollywood fans. He seems very excited for this project and feels that his story would be very inspiring.

Shahid Kapoor stated,

“In 2017, Gautam Gambhir became aware of his situation and sent money for his treatment. Soon people found out who he was, and 13 doctors came forward to help him. He is a sports star who survived cancer. At some point in his past, he had almost become Naxalite. His life story is unbelievably crazy; it is very human and extremely inspiring. Such amazing stories of heroes need to be told.”

A source very close to the development had earlier told DNA that Shahid Kapoor needs to have a specific physique for this role. He said that this actor will have to work on boxing techniques as well. The source says,

“He needs to have a particular physique to play the character convincingly and learn the techniques of boxing.”

This would be Shahid Kapoor’s second film as a sportsperson. Previously, he played the role of a cricketer in the film ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ which also featured Rani Mukherji in the pivotal role.

As of now, this actor is running very busy these days in the promotion of his upcoming film ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’ which is going to release on 21st September 2018. This upcoming film is also going to feature Shraddha Kapoor with him in the pivotal role. The trailer of the film has been very well received by the fans and now let’s see what his upcoming film brings up for the Bollywood fans.
