The news has been doing the rounds that Shah Rukh Khan is next in line to play the villain in Dhoom 4 for a long time now. It seems that the actor has been pitched the idea of Dhoom 4 by Yash Raj Films. Speculations about him being in the conversation for playing the antagonist in the next Dhoom franchise have been doing the rounds for over two years now.
During an F2F with media on his 52nd birthday celebration back in 2017, Shah Rukh had shared that he had not been offered the film as he had told Aditya Chopra that he’s not free. At that time, Shah Rukh was busy shooting for Aanand L Rai’s Zero, that released last year but failed to make an impression on the audience.
Now, after his last releases, Jab Harry Met Sejal and Zero fell flat on box-office, there are fresh rumors that Dhoom 4 has been pitched to SRK. This gains importance because SRK walked out of the Saare Jahan Se Achha – the Rakesh Sharma biopic and has not announced his next project as of yet.
A recent report that appeared on BollywoodHungama suggests the same on behalf of sources. In case SRK gives his nod, then Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reportedly make way for a new set of cops in the film’s franchise. In addition, this 3rd installment will be helmed by a new director. Back in 2017, when SRK was queried that whether he was offered Dhoom 4, he replied,
“With Yash Raj, they don’t need to offer me any film. Adi just calls me up and I do the film. But I’ve told him, Karan Johar and other directors that I am not thinking of any other film till December 2017. They understand and respect that.”
In Sept 2018, Abhishek Bachchan had told DNA,
“Usually, whenever Dhoom happens, there are several stories doing the rounds, but I won’t believe any till filmmaker Aditya Chopra confirms it. For all the three parts in the franchise, he just picked up the phone and told me, ‘Okay, we are ready and we are starting the film.’ But there has been no discussion or development on Dhoom 4 yet.”
