Salman Khan started his career with being Prem in his first movie as the lead, Maine Pyar Kiya. It wasn’t just Salman’s first movie, but the director Sooraj Barjatya of Rajshri Productions also had taken to directing a film for the first time. The movie now has earned cult staus. After that, a couple more came from the same director-actor duo, Hum Aapke Hain Koun! and Hum Saath Saath Hain, which precisely, if you ask me, were the best movies Salman Khan has ever worked on, in fact, two of the best movies ever made in Bollywood.
I mean c’mon how can one not like the sensitive yet goofy Salman Khan’s Prem who was in awe of Madhuri Dixit’s Nisha? *Uhhu uhhu* It has been almost 25 years and the movie still lives on and can be watched countless times. Another one of the Barjatya classics was Hum Saath Saath Hain where the coy, nerd-ish, mama’s boy Prem finds his janamo ka saathi in a coy Preeti Bhabhi but also knows how to stick to his sanskaars even if his mum was being a bit unreasonable. You got the drift, right?
The reason we all are so excited is that Salman Khan is again collaborating with Sooraj Barjatya for a family drama and the news has been confirmed by the director himself. He said that he is currently swamped with his other projects, but will begin work with Salman Khan soon. He said,
“Right now the focus is on Hum Chaar. Then my younger son Avnish will debut as a writer-director with a film this year. It’s a very big responsibility. After that I start writing my film with Salman,”
When asked about whether this too will be on the lines of his previous films with Salman, the director added,
“It’s a family drama, but not about joint family. It’s about husband and wife. I have discussed the primary idea with Salman. It’s going to be a family drama, and not an action film. All I can say is that it will have all the necessary ingredients that a Rajshri Production has – emotions, drama and a lot of music. It is going to be my most satisfying film… Whenever I am ready with the script, Salman has assured me that he will be ready too.”
He affirmed that this will be his ‘most satisfying’ movie ever and the reason is that, it will be majorly based on his 32 years of married life. He did not reveal anything further about the plot. Earlier, reports had surfaced that Salman was also to star in his son’s debut film as a director as well but Sooraj quashed those rumors saying,
“Initially there were just talks but it was never discussed. My son is making a love story, a young film, so Salman doesn’t fit in.”
Though we are extremely excited for this team up, we hope it wouldn’t be anything like Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, their latest project together. The movie fared extremely well at the box office, crossing over 200 crore mark but it went a bit overboard and also invited a bit of flak for it. What do you think? Will this one bring back the Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, and Hum Saath Saath Hain magic again? Only time will tell.
Salman Khan will be next seen in Bharat opposite Katrina Kaif, directed by Ali Abbas Zafar releasing on June 5, 2019.
