By now, everyone is aware that Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra were supposed to come together after a long time in Bharat and it was meant to be her comeback film in Bollywood, but things didn’t turn out as expected and in turn, turned sour for the duo.
Priyanka was the first choice to play the leading lady in Bharat and only 5 days before the shooting schedule was to begin, she made an impromptu exit, giving her wedding with Nick Jonas to be the reason behind it. Obviously, that didn’t go down well with Salman and since then, he hasn’t left a chance to take a dig at PeeCee for that. Now that Katrina Kaif is playing the part, Khan is only thankful about that. Recently, at an event, he said to Mumbai Mirror,
“Thank you, Priyanka! I will always be thankful to her. Bharat was about to go on the floors and just five days before the shooting, Priyanka meets me and says that she wouldn’t be able to work in the film. Now, if Priyanka hadn’t left Bharat, how could we have brought Katrina on board?”
The Tiger Zinda Hai actor said that Priyanka was offered a meaty role in Bharat, instead “She chose to play the role of a wife, which is even beautiful. But Katrina is not playing the role of a wife and hence she is playing the character in Bharat.”
When asked whether he talked to Priyanka lately, he said,
“No, even after the release of the trailer, Priyanka didn’t call me. Now, if she had some genuine problem then it’s alright. I believe, whatever happens, happens for the good.”
“She came to meet me one day and said she is going to get married and hence won’t be able to work in the film. I had told Priyanka that we will adjust the dates for her. She said that she isn’t sure how much time she needs for the preparation of her wedding,”
He further revealed that the Dil Dhadakne Do actor was not willing to make any adjustments regarding the dates and was quite firm on her decision. In fact, she had just come to deliver the news. However, he again took a sly dig and said,
“While many would give anything for the film or maybe even leaving their husband, Priyanka left the film,”
Just when you thought that he is still sore about the whole incident and would probably deny working with her in future, when he was later asked whether he is on to work with Priyanka Chopra Jonas after this fiasco, he answered in affirmative and put one condition. He said,
“I would definitely work with her in the future. If she gets me a meaty role, why wouldn’t I work with her? I just need to love the story.”
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Bharat stars Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sunil Grover, Jackie Shroff, Disha Patani, Nora Fatehi, and Tabu. It will open to theatres on June 5, 2019.
