Sanjay Dutt has been a very successful and versatile actor of the Bollywood film industry. He has done many amazing films which have been truly loved by the Bollywood fans. Recently, his movie Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 has been released on the big screens which also features Jimmy Shergill, Mahi Gill, Chitrangda Singh and Soha Ali Khan with him in the pivotal roles.
The film has been facing a lot of competition at the box office with Jhanvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s movie, ‘Dhadak’ and also Ranbir Kapoor’s movie, ‘Sanju’ which is itself based on Sanjay Dutt. Not only these movies, but also Sanjay Dutt’s ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ is facing competition from Tom Cruise’s action film, ‘Mission Impossible – Fallout.’
Talking about the recent movie of Sanjay Dutt, it is directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia which involves elements of revenge, action, drama, crime, conspiracy and greed. The film is the third instalment of the Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster series which has been doing an average business at the box office. According to the Indian Express, Analyst Girish Johar had earlier predicted that the film would do an average business. He had stated,
“Despite being a franchise film and starring Sanjay Dutt as an antagonist, Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3 will be an average affair at the box office. The songs and the trailer of the film hint at only an average start. It might earn Rs. 2.5 crore oon its day of release.”
Talking about other trade analysts, Sumit Kadel tweeted,
“#SahebBiwiAurGangster3 opened with disastrous 8-10% occupancy in the morning shows across India. #MissionImpossibleFallout opens well.”
Also in another tweet, he wrote,
“Initial reports of #SahebBiwiAurGangster3 suggests that this film will be discontinued from most of the theatres after the weekend.”
Talking about the box office collections of this film, ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster 3’ earned Rs. 1.25 crores on its day 1. The film hasn’t received a very great response from the Bollywood fans and the reason could also be that this Sanjay Dutt’s film is getting a tough competition from his own biopic and also ‘Dhadak.’ Sanjay Dutt has been good in the movie but still, there is lack of a good plot in the film and so it is being criticized by many Bollywood fans.
In an interview, Tigmanshu Dhuliua, who is the director of the film, said,
“This is not a period film. It is the story of 2018. If we look around ourselves, everything has improved. The characters from Delhi and Gorakhpur are all the same. You will find malls in both the cities. The visual arena of India is becoming common. This is what we have shown in the film.”
On the other side, the film has not been receiving a very good response and the ratings of the film has also been quite disappointing for the Bollywood fans. NDTV has rated the film 2/5, Hindustan Times has rated 1/5, Times of India has rated 3.5/5 and IMDb has rated 6.9/10. Shubhra Gupta, who is a film critic of The Indian Express wrote,
“There’s too much scatter-shot action, with the plot all over the place, especially in the second half, when the unravelling proceeds apace. It’s a crowded film, and several characters get short shrift: Soha Ali Khan, as the permanently inebriated ‘second wife’ of Saheb, is blink-and-miss, Nafisa Ali as the helpless ‘Rajmaata’ even more so, and some peripheral characters seem to be around just to add local color, and nothing more.”
So according to the reports, the movie of Sanjay Dutt has not gained a very good response on the big screens and the earnings of the movie’s first day have also been less than it was expected. As of now, let’s see how it will be performing in the upcoming week, but till now it has not been criticized by many Bollywood fans and has not been able to create its impact at the box office.
