Ever since Ranveer Singh has been announced to star in the upcoming Kapil Dev Biopic ’83, we have been intently waiting for the movie’s updates to hit soon. Just like no one imagined Sushant Singh Rajput to look like MS Dhoni on-field yet he pulled off the character like a boss, we haven’t been able to imagine Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, but we sure know that he can get in the skin of any character and would nail this one too.
Kapil Dev, Former Indian Cricket Captain got home our very first World Cup beating West Indies in England in 1983. The man put us on the cricketing map, after which, India, as a team was taken seriously. His contribution as an all-rounder, as a Captain, to Indian Cricket is amazing. To tell this inspiring story on the big screen, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan director Kabir Khan has been handed over the job. Well, Ranveer took to Twitter to share a photo of him with Kapil Dev marking the beginning of his on-set training by the legend himself in Dharamshala. He posted:
“LEGEND!#KapilDev @83thefilm #blessed #journeybegins @kabirkhankk.”
This morning, he had shared another picture with the Hurricane and wrote:
“Becoming the Hurricane #KapilDev #legend #journeybegins @83thefilm @kabirkhankk.”
In both the pictures, Ranveer can be seen beaming with joy sporting a smile throughout just like a teenage fanboy around his idol. Here’s another video that he recently posted:

Earlier, in an interview, when Ranveer was asked about his reaction on being offered to play Kapil Dev in his biopic, he said,
“I was born at the time when cricket was big time. When Kabir Sahab (director Kabir Khan) had come to me and said that there will be a film on 83, I was like finally. And when he was narrating it to me, I was like woooh. It is not a story just about cricket but a human story.”
Kabir Khan during a conversation with the media earlier had revealed that the movie will not have lip sync songs for obvious reasons and we will not see Ranveer dancing but the music is being highly focused on, as it is very important for any film. He said,
“In ’83’, the music will be definitely important. It’s a sports film so the music will be motivational. There will be obviously a motivating anthem and songs of several mood in the film. But there won’t be any lip-sync songs because I don’t think audience will accept Kapil Dev singing on the streets of London. But needless to say it’ll be an energetic background score and album,”
‘83 will have stars like Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiva, Sahil Khattar, Harrdy Sandhu, Chirag Patil and Pankaj Tripathi in major roles. The movie will be extensively shot in England and Scotland, where the tournament took place, over around 100 days. The budget is known to be as huge as a hundred crores which raise our expectations definitely to another level. The makers are eyeing to release ‘83 in the first quarter of 2020 and chances are that it’ll get the release date of April 10, 2020.
