Nawazuddin Siddiqui And Radhika Apte Starrer ‘Raat Akeli Hai’ Review

Netflix Original and Nawazuddin Siddiqui – Radhika Apte starrer Raat Akeli Hai could have done better as a web series. Directed by Honey Trehan, it features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Radhika Apte, Shweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Nishant Dahiya, Ila Arun, Swanand Kirkire, Aditya Srivastava, Khalid Tyabji and others in pivotal roles. Most of these names are well established in the Indian entertainment industry, but despite that, a major part of the limelight is thrown at Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte.

Talking about its story. The film debuts with twin murders and fasts forward to 5 years when another murder takes at the place of a patriarch and that too on his wedding night. The investigating officer, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, sees everyone as an accused or eye-witness for this heinous crime. As he further investigates, he finds out that the person the landlord got married to is a young woman Radha played by none other than Radhika Apte. Citing her as a gold-digger, Nawaz along with other family members thinks that she must have done it in order to become the successor of the house and all his properties.

As already discussed above, Raat Akeli Hai has a lot of talented actors coming together but they are hardly used to their best capabilities and deserve more screen presence. Going into details, Raat Akeli Hai brings on the silver screen all the problems that are still existent in the Indian society, be it casteism, racism, or classism. Honey Trehan who is one of the leading casting directors is making his debut as a director with Raat Akeli Hai. He did an appreciable job by casting a whale of talented actors in one project and for his first, good execution in direction too. Smita Singh’s screenplay brought on screen the complexities of each character but not the screen time of the actors.

Our View

Raat Akeli Hai could have been a great deal if things were minimized or it was turned into a Netflix original series rather!
