Recently HUL (Hindustan Unilever) had dropped words such as ‘fairness’, ‘lightening’ & ‘whitening’ from their beauty products and this decision of theirs was was lauded by many celebrities across Bollywood. This was done as a step towards ending discrimination & prejudice which’s based on skin color.
Recently, Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has revealed how he was influenced by fairness products when he was younger and shared that he used to apply fairness creams hoping he would achieve great results. The actor also questioned the lack of existence of dark skinned actors in the mainstream Hindi film industry.
In an interview with Cinema Express, he said:
I too grew up applying these fairness creams, expecting miraculous results. In fact, I remember that once, I didn’t even realise that the cream I was using wasn’t Fair and Lovely, but some fake called Fare and Lovely. I spent a lot of time trying to make my skin fairer.
Siddiqui was last seen in the Netflix Movie Raat Akeli Hai which stars Radhika Apte & Shweta Tripathi. It is a crime drama that has been directed by the first time director Honey Trehan. He also revealed that he had an inferiority complex at first but he later realized that he couldn’t do anything about his face and its better for him to start focusing on his craft. He also said that is took some time to come out of that trauma, but he’s glad that he made that decision.
Talking about working with the debutant director, Siddiqui said that it didn’t feel like he (Honey) was directing a film for the 1st time in his entire life. It felt to him as if he has already directed 15-20 films earlier since he had such clarity — be it about discussing the inner world of the characters with the actors or any other aspect of filmmaking. He further added that he has a pure thought about cinema & an actor is always ready to collaborate with someone who can connect with films so well.
