The film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat has been one of the most controversial films of the year 2018. The film is based on the legendary Rajput queen who was known for her beauty. The film went under a lot of controversies and was opposed by a large number of Rajputs and their groups specially Karni Sena. According to them, the film had insulted Rajputs but instead, it turned out to be completely opposite as it showed the glory and achievements of Rajputs.

My Name Is Khan

My Name is Khan went under the controversy as the lead actor Shah Rukh Khan said that Pakistani players should be allowed to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) when his movie My Name Is Khan was about to release. After hearing his statement, the sentiments of Shiv Sena were hurt and they threatened Shah Rukh related to his movie which was about to release.

Jodha Akbar

Jodha Akbar was one of the most successful historical romance films which featured Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai in the lead roles. The film was based on the famous Mughal emperor Akbar who got married to a Rajputani queen named Jodha. The film went under a lot of controversy as the sentiments of many people were hurt as they stated that Jodha was not Akbar’s wife and she was instead his son’s wife according to them. However, the film even after a lot of controversies went on to be a great success.


PK was one of the most successful films of Aamir Khan and went on to be a super success at the Box office. However, the film faced controversies regarding many of its scenes which were related to religions. Certain scenes in the film hurt the sentiments of different religious groups which was the reason why the film was held controversial. The film, however, continued to run successfully at the box office despite so much of criticism from the religious groups.

Madras Cafe

Madras Café is a film which is based on the civil war which happened in Sri Lanka in early ninety’s and which is also linked to the assassination of the former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Due to some of the scenes in the movie, this film was opposed by Tamil groups largely. They demanded that the film should be banned which gave rise to controversies.

Oh My God!

Oh My God is a satirical comedy-drama film which features Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar in the leading role. The film was based on the superstitions which dwell in our Indian Society. It is based on mainly Hindu religion and it showed how people blindly follow all the superstitions in our country without even having any proper knowledge about the rituals. The film faced a lot of controversies and was opposed by the religious groups as it had hurt the sentiments of many religious groups and thus they wanted it to be banned. However, the film was most loved and appreciated by the audiences and the critics and still went on to be extremely successful.


The film Fanaa came under the controversy since when the movie was around its release date, Aamir Khan had questioned against the height of Narmada Dam which unintentionally hurt the sentiments of the ruling party in Gujarat which was BJP. The consequences after this were that the film Fanaa was completely banned in Gujarat state by the ruling party there.


Boom was the first film of Katrina Kaif in the Bollywood industry which was directed by Kaizad Gustad. The film Boom involved many hot scenes between Gulshan Grover and the successful actress Katrina Kaif. Some of the scenes were later deleted. The film went through controversies as it was being said as a ‘soft porn’. Due to this the film had to face certain consequences by the people.

Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela

The film Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela went under a lot of controversies because of the title of the film. Ram is the name of a god in the Hindu mythology due to which many Hindu communities went against the title ‘Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ramleela’. Surprisingly the people did not only opposed but also filed an FIR against Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh. However, the film ran successfully on the big screens and was loved by the audiences and the critics.

This movie of Prakash Jha hurt the sentiments of many groups which dragged the film into a major controversy and also the film was put on to a ban in Uttar Pradesh.
