Mithun Chakraborty Unable to Be With His Father in His Last Moments

Bollywood veteran: Father of Mithun Chakraborty passed away in Mumbai while the actor was stuck in Bengaluru due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty’s father, Basantakumar Chakraborty, passed away due to kidney failure. He was 95. As per the incoming reports, Basanta Kumar Chakraborty was battling age-related health issues and passed away on Tuesday evening. The news was made public by Mithun Chakraborty’s younger son, Namashi Chakraborty.

Namashi revealed to PTI in an interview,

“Yes, my grandfather passed away last evening due to kidney failure.”

Namashi further added that his actor-father is stuck in Bengaluru due to the coronavirus-led nationwide lockdown but is trying his best to come to Mumbai to do the last rites.

Bengali actor Rituparna Sengupta took to Twitter to offer condolences both to the actor and his family. Ritu wrote,

“My deep condolences on the sudden demise of your father, Mithun Da. Stay strong may his soul rest in peace forever.”

Just recently, director Sudhir Mishra also suffered a major setback during the ongoing lockdown phase as he lost his father, Dr. DN Mishra, also a Lucknowite on April 2.

In a recently given interview, speaking about the same, Sudhir had said,

“My sister could not come. Later, we did a small puja at home. He suffered a heart attack. Now, I am taking care of my mother and slowly started with my normal life.” The Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi director was wrapping his next film Serious Men based on Manu Joseph’s novel when the lockdown happened. Sudhir added, “I have already shot the film in Mumbai and Goa with Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It’s the story of a father and son. The editing part has also been done. I just need a month or so to complete the VFX and other parts. The film is for Netflix.”
