Bollywood veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty has been roped in to feature in a horror comedy. The movie is scheduled to start its production some time in July August, this year. The actor was last seen in The Tashkent Files starring Shweta Prasad, Pankaj Tripathi, and Naseeruddin Shah which talked about the mysterious death of India’s 2nd Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Mithun has been out of the limelight lately, owing to his ongoing treatment for severe backache. He reportedly is super excited to do the movie and has also signed the dotted line. The movie is titled Bhootiyapa and will star three ace comedians Krushna Abhishek, Sugandha Mishra, and Rajiv Thakur as well. It will be helmed by Manoj Sharma who in a conversation with PTI said,
“When I narrated the film to Mithun da, he was very excited! He is absolutely fit and fine and told me he loved the script. I am thrilled to direct him and I think it will be a fun ride for all of us,”
Talking about Mithun’s role in the film, he revealed that it will be about a man who will invite three comedians at his mansion for a private performance and that’s where the comedic horror events will follow. He told,
“We are trying something new with the film, the genre of horror-comedy is new and we have a fantastic story and the cast to make it entertaining.”
The so-called horror comedy in India was brought in by Saif Ali Khan, Vir Das, Anand Tiwari, and Kunal Khemu starrer Go Goa Gone which received mixed reviews. The movie, in particular, was a Zombie Comedy aka ZomCom but the idea of Horror Comedy popped up from that film only.
Later, it was widely accepted in the form of Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao and Aparshakti Khurrana’s Stree which entered the 100 crore club and is now in planning for its sequel. What was interesting about the movie was its exceptional writing and the issues it managed to touch like misogyny and chauvinism, with utmost maturity. The upcoming Mithun starrer horror comedy too sounds interesting and might break the box office, if made right.
The synopsis of Stree reads:
The people of Chanderi live under a constant fear of Stree, the spirit of a woman, who attacks men at night during the festivals. Vicky, along with his friends, decides to solve the mystery. It is based on the urban legend of “Nale Ba” that went viral in Karnataka in the 1990s.
Here’s the synopsis of Mithun Chakraborty’s last on-screen outing The Tashkent Files which is currently running in theatres:
The Tashkent Files is a thriller that revolves around the mysterious death of India’s 2nd Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri and attempts to uncover if he had actually died a natural death, or, as alleged, was assassinated.
