2019’s Republic Day is going to be a big festival for the Bollywood fans as it is completely packed with the release of most awaited films of that year. The Republic Day weekend is going to be a feast for the Bollywood fans as films like Manikarnika, Cheat India, Super 30 and Thackeray are releasing during that time. The competition seems to be really interesting as Hrithik’s ‘Super 30’ would be facing Kangana’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi and they would also be clashing with Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thackeray and Emraan Hashmi’s Cheat India.
The filmmakers are very fond of the Republic Day’s weekend and love to release their films during that time. This time, the Bollywood fans are going to have many options on the Republic Day with such movies. Going back to the Republic Day of the year 2017, films like Kaabil and Raees were released and they were very well received by the Bollywood fans. Well, now if we take this year’s Republic Day, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s blockbuster film ‘Padmaavat’ was released and later in the upcoming weekend films like Aiyaary and Pad Man also joined.
So the Bollywood fans are really excited for this interesting clash where these four films are going face a very good competition. Talking more about these films, ‘Super 30’ is a biopic on a mathematician, Anand Kumar who took an initiative for the education of less privileged children. Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi is inspired by the story of Rani Laxmibai. ‘Thackeray’ is based on the supreme leader of Shiv Sena party and ‘Cheat India’ is based on the education scams which have taken place in India. All the films seem to be quite interesting and so the weekend of Republic Day is very well crowded.
When Tanuj Garg, who is the producer of ‘Cheat India’ was asked why he opted for this date, he hinted that he is ready to face the competition and he also stated that it makes more business sense to release a film on Republic Day. According to the reports of DNA, Tanuj Garg said,
“For us, it’s a great national holiday weekend. Our film’s theme and title lent itself to this particular weekend. So, it’s only organic for us to come out with our movie on this date. From the overall monetary perspective, too, it makes more business sense for us to release on the Republic Day weekend.”
The famous trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that it is too early to predict about these movies. He feels that we’ll have to wait till November-December to know more about these upcoming films. According to the reports of DNA, Taran Adarsh stated,
“We’ll have to wait till November-December for the movies’ promotional campaigns to start to know what they’re offering. Once some more of the content is showcased, only then a clearer picture will emerge.”
When Tanuj Garg was further questioned about the clash, he stated that he feels that there is enough space for all the films. He also feels that more theatres would be opened in future and such clashes shouldn’t be a reason to worry. He says,
“The exhibitors surely know how to allocate screens and show timings for the multiple releases,” Adarsh agrees with him and so he adds, “More theatres will open up in the future, too. But it’s going to be the survival of the fittest.” He feels the film industry needs to prepare itself for more such clashes in the future. He also points out, “Producers have no choice. We’ve had clashes earlier, too. In recent times, we saw Bajrangi Bhaijaan coming a week after Baahubali: The Beginning, and both became blockbusters. So, if the content is good, it will only expand the market.”
This clash can still be a reason to worry for the filmmakers but on the other side, it is a treat for the Bollywood fans as they are going to get many options this time on their Republic Day weekend. Let’s hope that we get to witness something really grand on 2019’s Republic Day.
