Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released on 16th October 1998. It’s been 20 years since its release and still, every time it comes on TV, we find us repeating the dialogues with the stars. The film made Anjali(s), Tina, and Rahul, so popular that no true Bollywood fan need an introduction. Karan Johar marked his debut with this film and made it a blockbuster. Just recently, the team also celebrated Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’s 20 years with the star cast, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukherji and other stars from the industry. It was a grand event hosted by Karan himself. Now to revamp the movie and the roles, Karan Johar is soon coming up with a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Sequel.
Dialogues like ‘Rahul is a chitter’, ‘Pyaar Dosti Hai’, ‘Agar woh meri sabse achi dost nahi ban sakti toh mai usse pyaar kar hi nahi sakta’, and songs like Yeh Ladka Hai Deewana, Ladki Badi Anjaani Hai, Saajan Ji Ghar Aaye, etc. are etched into our hearts. And the best part is that one of the most cherished Bollywood movies is soon to hit the screens soon.
A source reported to Bollywood Hungama about the development of KKHH 2. He said,
“Karan has cracked an idea for a sequel. Now, all he needs to do is to develop it, which he’s doing and pretty soon there will be an announcement.”
It was Karan’s first movie as a director and definitely, it holds a special place in his heart. The movie packed in romance, friendship, friend-zoning, love triangle, and everything. Though there have been times when the film was not appreciated for its plot but who cares, the audience and the fans love it, don’t they?
The source said that the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai sequel will happen very soon. He added,
“But stay alert for the Kuch Kuch Hota Hai sequel. Most probably, it will happen sooner rather than later.”
On Koffee With Karan Season 6, Ranveer Singh made an appearance in an episode with Akshay Kumar and when he was asked who he wants to be paired up with next, Alia or Deepika, he instantly said, both. He went on to suggest that it can be a Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 2 where he’d like to play Shah Rukh Khan’s character Rahul and Ranbir can have a cameo appearance in the film as Aman, Salman’s character. He said,
“Yeah, it would be like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 2’. And then, Ranbir (Kapoor) can enter as Salman. What a great idea! It’s a block, Karan. Do it.”
Well, maybe Karan has different plans. Some reports suggest that the cast may include Alia Bhatt, Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani in the lead roles, some say it could be Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, and Janhvi Kapoor. Nothing has been officially announced but we soon hope Karan announces the film and its star cast.
What seems to be almost final is that Karan Johar won’t be directing the movie. Karan is busy helming his upcoming ensemble costume drama, Takht based on India-Pakistan partition starring Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Bhumi Pednekar. The movie will most probably go on floors sometime mid of the next year and will hit the theatres in 2020.
We just hope Karan Johar make a cameo appearance in the movie if he’s not directing it. That’ll be interesting to watch!
