While talking to media recently, Karan Johar critiqued his directorial debut ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ which had completed 21 years of its release recently.
It was the eve of the 21st anniversary of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which has been one of the most iconic and unforgettable movies in Indian cinema. This flick helped Karan make his directorial debut in Indian cinema. On the other hand it marked the reunion of blockbuster on-screen couple Shah Rukh Khan & Kajol in the lead roles. This flick also acted as a booster for Rani Mukerji’s career and from there she never saw back.
Despite being a love of many, it still remains one of the flawed films. SRK who played Rahul repeatedly said the words,
“Hum ek baar jeete hain… ek baar marte hain… shaadi bhi ek baar hoti hai, aur pyaar…ek hi baar hota hai!” in the entire flick. But he falls in love and ties the knot twice, off-course in reel life.
During a F2F with Mid Day, Karan talked about Rahul and said,
“Rahul doesn’t stand for very much. He’s a deeply confused character, doesn’t know what he wants and didn’t do a lot much in the movie. Whatever happened to him was because people were pushing him – his dead wife’s spirit, his eight-year-old daughter, and Anjali herself. What made him endearing was his charm, his large heart and Shah Rukh’s charisma.”
He further critiqued Kuch Kuch Hota Hai with his words that were,
“There was no logic or backstory to the characters. You don’t know what Shah Rukh, or anyone else, does for a living in the movie. And the eight letters – one for each birthday – made no sense, either.”
Talking about Karan’s recent projects, his big-budgeted flick: Kalank had a nosedive at the box office, despite the presence of a stellar cast that included: Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Bhatt, and others.
