Sports biopics have always interested people and attracted huge audiences to the theatres but when it is about Kapil Dev’s biopic then things are bound to heat up more. Kapil Dev, Former Indian Cricket Captain got home our very first World Cup beating West Indies in England in 1983. The man put us on the cricketing map, after which, India, as a team was taken seriously. His contribution as an all-rounder, as a Captain, as a human being to Cricket is amazing. A story as such deserves to be told and shown on the big screen and will be. Kapil Dev’s biopic ’83 starring Ranveer Singh is in making and the actor’s training has already begun.
Balvinder Singh Sandhu along with Kapil Dev has been training the Gully Boy actor. The cast of the film has also been announced. Along with Kapil, his daughter Amiya Dev has also joined the project. Apparently, she is assisting the director, Kabir Khan and will debut with this movie as an Assistant Director. Amiya is allegedly handling the pre-production work of the film.
Chirag Patil, son of Sandeep Patil, Former Indian Cricket Player who was a part of the team during the famous 1983 World Cup will be playing the role of his father in the movie informed of Amiya’s involvement in the project. He stated,
“We met for the first time while working on the film. She’s from Delhi, I’m from Mumbai and she’s way younger than me. She’s part of our daily training sessions since she is on the direction team. So, she keeps us updated on any meetings we are supposed to attend.”
He further added,
“Whenever I’m in Kabir’s office, she’s there and is very involved in the process, be it planning the costumes or the schedule.”
The director, Kabir Khan during a conversation with the media earlier had revealed that the movie will not have lip sync songs for obvious reasons and we will not see Ranveer dancing but the music is being highly focused on, as it is very important for any film. He said,
“In ’83’, the music will be definitely important. It’s a sports film so the music will be motivational. There will be obviously a motivating anthem and songs of several mood in the film. But there won’t be any lip-sync songs because I don’t think audience will accept Kapil Dev singing on the streets of London. But needless to say it’ll be an energetic background score and album,”
The movie will have stars like Saqib Saleem, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiva, Sahil Khattar, Harrdy Sandhu, Chirag Patil and Pankaj Tripathi in major roles. The movie will extensively be shot in England and Scotland where the tournament took place over 100 days. The budget is known to be as huge as a hundred crores. The makers are eyeing to release the movie in the first quarter of 2020. They may release the movie on April 10, 2020.
With all this information, we are super excited for the film already and are waiting for Ranveer’s first look as Kapil Dev to hit the internet very soon. Are you excited? Tell us in the comments.
