Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao starrer Mental Hai Kya makers postponed the date of their movie’s release, pushing it to June 21. The movie was earlier supposed to be released on March 29, 2019. But the new release date will face stiff competition with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh.
The respective change is known to have been made post-Kangana’s request of wanting to keep a significant gap after her last release Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. The Queen actor will now take on Udta Punjab actor at the box office. The two have previously worked in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon along with Saif Ali Khan during the promotions of which the whole “nepotism” debate in Bollywood rose. During the shooting of this film, the two stars were known to be not very cordial with each other, and it continued to the promotions where the two were slammed by each other indirectly or directly sometimes.
Where Kangana took a dig at the kissing scene with Shahid, he too went on record to give it back to her. One of the statements which blew and made headlines was when Kangana, in an interview, said that she’s the third hero in the film. When Shahid was asked about the same and asked to comment on it, he said,
“Why doesn’t she say there are three heroines in the film? Is there anything less in being a heroine? There are three protagonists in the film and for me, being a hero or a heroine makes no difference. So, if by saying that you being a hero makes you a bigger person, I don’t agree with that thought process.”
This was one of the few incidents that came to the fore but now, it has been long and their relationship seems to be as professional as it can be. The two were not available to comment on their upcoming clash at the box office, but it sure will be a big one as both the movies have been keeping the fans waiting for their release.
Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh is a Hindi Remake of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s blockbuster Telugu film, Arjun Reddy. The Rangoon actor will play the titular role in the movie with Kiara Advani opposite him. He will play a Punjabi boy whose life in the movie will be shown in four phases. The first will throw light on Kabir Singh as a college student, second will take us through his professional life, third will show us how he falls into a self-destructive path, and the fourth phase will talk about Kabir’s active reformation. It is a story of a young surgeon who will head towards alcoholism and addiction to drugs after his love interest will be forced to marry another man.
On the other hand, Mental Hai Kya will mark the Hindi directorial debut of Prakash Kolevamudi and the movie revolves around mental illnesses and hallucinations faced by two protagonists played by Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao.
It is yet to see whether the two of them will begin their war of words before their respective releases or will it be a smooth sail.
