Hrithik Roshan has been out of the big screen since a long time now, but not necessarily out of our sights for he was mired in controversies from top to bottom a couple years ago. And the reason behind this, was no one else than Kangana Ranaut who made severe allegations against the man, washing their dirty linen in public. It definitely divided fandoms and now, when everything was settled down, they would be facing each other at the box office with their respective upcoming films, Super 30 and Mental Hai Kya.
For the uninitiated, Super 30 starring Hrithik Roshan was apparently supposed to release earlier this year on Republic Day, January 26 but later was pushed to July 26, in order to avoid the clash with Kanagana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi which did release around that time only. However, it looks like, even after several efforts, the clash couldn’t be avoided after all. Turns out, Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao starrer Mental Hai Kya, which shifted its release date to June 21 to face Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh at the box office, has again shifted its dates further. And the release date the filmmakers are going with, without any surprises, is July 26.
The reason for postponing the movie before was that the Balaji Production venture was left with some patchwork to be done but the reason for the most recent shift is still unknown. On one hand, Mental Hai Kya will mark the Hindi directorial debut of Prakash Kolevamudi and the movie revolves around mental illnesses and hallucinations faced by two protagonists played by Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao. There are chances that the movie’s title might get changed, after some medical organizations and Deepika’s Live Love Laugh foundation have objected to the mishandling of this serious stigmatic mental health subject.
And on the other hand, Super 30 was known to be a biopic, based on the life of a mathematician, Anand Kumar who got popular for providing free coaching classes to the meritorious economically weak 30 students for IIT-JEE. It was founded in 2002 in Patna. And the most interesting part was that in 2008, all 30 of his students cleared the exam. But the movie faced quite a few pitfalls, first it was the director of the movie Vikas Bahl who was fired under the MeToo fire and was accused of sexually assaulting one of the actors from his movie Queen and now, there are chances that the makers of the movie will not release it as a biopic after a couple of students from IIT Guwahati have filed a PIL against the teacher, calling him a fraud. This negative publicity around the movie has urged the filmmakers to release it as a fictional story of a mathematical wizard. The movie stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Tripathi in prominent roles along with Hrithik Roshan.
People still remain quite curious to see Hrithik back on the big screen, this time again in such a challenging role. If the movies’ clash, which one would you watch? Tell us in the comments down below.
