Fatima Sana Shaikh, popularly known for her debut role in Dangal may not have impressed the audiences with her latest film, Thugs of Hindostan which was not just a critical dud but also a damp squib at the box office (in spite of a having a rich star cast shouldering the film), but she definitely has impressed the filmmakers in the industry with her versatile performances in her two films.
Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Salute’, a biopic on the Air Force officer turned astronaut, the first Indian to travel into space, Rakesh Sharma, has been making the headlines recently and now reports suggest that Fatima Sana Shaikh is being considered to play SRK’s wife in the movie. The source was quoted as saying,
“The makers are still on a hunt for the leading lady. Fatima Sana Shaikh too is being considered for the role. They seem to be quite impressed with her performances and she is one of the leading contenders for it.”
Now, this wouldn’t be just another role for Fatima Sana Shaikh, if she bags it as she recently, in an interview, confessed that she loves Shah Rukh Khan and if there’s anybody from the industry she gets nervous around, it is him. She continued and said that she is dying to work with him.
Aamir Khan was supposed to be a part of ‘Salute’ but he backed out and extended the offer to Shah Rukh Khan as had to focus on another of his project, Mahabharat. The writer of the movie, Anjum Rajabali confirmed Aamir’s exit and said,
“Frankly, I was very keen that Aamir should do the film. He liked the script, we discussed it a lot and we had a lot of hopes about it. Unfortunately, Aamir is consumed with a larger sort of project called Mahabharat.”
If Aamir was to play the part, Priyanka Chopra most would have played the part but as soon as Shah Rukh Khan was roped in, her name was struck off of the list. Reportedly, Bhumi Pednekar was also one of the choices but things didn’t work out and so, she too is out. That leaves more chances for Fatima to feature opposite Shah Rukh on the big screen.
On the work front, SRK’s much-anticipated movie of 2018, Zero failed to create an impact in the minds of the audiences. Similarly, Fatima’s last release, Thugs of Hindostan also was a big disappointment and fell prey to online trolling. Both the stars would have a lot riding on this film.
Salute, on the other hand, which was earlier named to be ‘Saare Jahaan Se Achha’ is expected to go on floors in February and it will be jointly bankrolled by Ronnie Screwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur. Though no official announcement has been made by the team of Salute yet, we hope they zero it down to Fatima for we too would want to see them on the big screen together.
