Sushant Singh Rajput’s last movie, Dil Bechara, has defeated Amitabh Bachchan-Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Gulabo Sitabo in online viewership. Online viewership figures are quoted here because ever since the coronavirus pandemic hit our world hard theatres across the world have been shut down and most of the flicks are resorting to OTT platforms for their premiere. Gulabo Sitabo was the first-ever Indian movie that was destined for a box office premiere but had to opt for an OTT release instead.
‘Dil Bechara’, in which Sanjana Sanghi could be seen romancing Sushant Singh Rajput was released on July 24, 2020, and it received a huge response from the audiences once it was released on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar at 7:30 P.M. last Friday. This movie has also given the OTT platform its highest Indian content views as of now. ‘Dil Bechara’, which was Sushant Singh Rajput’s last movie ever, was made available to all the audiences irrespective of their membership status on the OTT platform. As per a report on Box Office India, the movie has even managed to beat Shoojit Sircar‘s ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ viewership figures that premiered on Amazon Prime on June 12, 2020.
As happens in most cases, there have been a few criticisms around ‘Dil Bechara’, the movie has mainly been lived as an experience, and as a tribute to late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. ‘Dil Bechara’ also launched casting director, Mukesh Chhabra as a director, and Sanjana Sanghi as an actor in the female lead Bollywood. Sanjana had appeared in supporting roles in three Bollywood flicks namely ‘Rockstar’, ‘Hindi Medium’, and ‘Fukrey Returns’ in the past.
As there is no end in sight to COVID-19 pandemic, Bollywood movies are now giving competition to Indian web shows that have been an audience favorite before coronavirus arrived on the scene and disrupted both personal and professional lives on a global scale.
