Deepika Padukone and Vikrant Massey starrer Chhapaak have been making headlines for one reason or the other. The movie is currently in its production stage and it will be the first time that Vikrant Massey will be romancing DP. This movie also marks Deepika’s first outing post her marriage with Ranveer Singh and is being highly anticipated by fans.
The first look of the movie definitely got people super interested and now, a major revelation has been made which again has made it a topic of discussion. Well, Vikrant Massey of Dil Dhadakne Do, Lootera, and Lipstick Under My Burkha fame was not the first choice to play the love interest of Deepika, but it was none other than Rajkummar Rao. During a recent chat show, Rao himself shared that he was offered the role but he couldn’t take it up. Citing its reason, he said,
“I didn’t turn it down. Of course not! I loved that script but my dates were so messed up. I’m so looking forward to that film. I kept telling Meghna and Deepika that it’s my loss.”
On one hand, where Rajkummar was calling it his loss, Massey bagged this meaty role as a male lead opposite Deepika. In a conversation with Pinkvilla, talking about the role landing in his lap, Vikrant was quoted as saying,
“I was really excited and kind of surprised also. It was really overwhelming when I got the confirmation call from Meghna. Also, to be collaborating with her and Deepika is a part of it; it’s something that I am really looking forward to.”
He further added,
“It feels very heart-warming that entire time when the film was announced on the 19th December. As I said, the emails, the tweets and the things that were written in the media, they were really heartwarming. Right now, all I am really focused on is sort of repaying their trust back by being consistent. It feels great. I don’t think an actor can ask for more when something like this happens.”
Meghna Gulzar, the director of Raazi and Talwar is coming up with this another real life story of Laxmi who was attacked with acid at the age of 15 but her unconquerable human spirit made her win at life, for she now runs an NGO Chhanv Foundation which ensures better lifestyle to all the acid attack survivors. Such a role, for Deepika as well is challenging and something she is super overwhelmed about. Earlier, she also talked to the media about the movie and had said,
“It is a proud moment for all of us, we are overwhelmed. In the six months since Meghna offered me ‘Chhapaak’, we have been through so much, from look tests and casting to the readings. And while it’s all creatively satisfying, I can’t wait to be on the set because no matter how much you prep, what happens there is something else. So, there’s a sense of excitement and also some nervous jitters that everyone in every department faces for the first three-four days into the shoot, till we all get a hang of the characters and the bond between unit members cements. But the nervousness is positive energy.”
Meanwhile, the team recently wrapped up the shooting in Delhi and one of the kissing scenes of the lead stars was also leaked. It is slated to hit the theatres on January 10, 2020.
