Laxmi Agarwal, whose life story acted as a motivation for Deepika Padukone’s Chhapaak. A film based on an acid attack survivor featuring Deepika Padukone himself in the role of Malti, recently revealed how her daughter reacted to the film.
Laxmi shared that her daughter who in most cases like most children of her age never watched a movie in complete, sat through the entire movie and later on went and hugged Deepika.
Talking to Mid-Day, these were Laxmi’s exact words that she spoke during the conversation,
“She usually leaves a film half-way, but patiently watched this one till the end. She then posed questions, one by one, all of which I addressed. After the film, she showered me with so much love. She also went and hugged Deepika. I wanted to make a video of her (reacting to the film) and show the world what she felt, in her own words.”
Laxmi thought it was important to bring to notice this event in the eyes of the public. Because she was extremely touched to see that her daughter despite being of younger age was able to relate to a film that put forward her mother’s ordeal in front of both her and the world.
Speaking more about the film, Laxmi sometime back shared that Chhapaak is bound to create more awareness and remove ‘acid’ from the minds of people who use it as a weapon to avenge themselves.
She further added that when a celebrity raises an issue, it becomes an issue of society as people relate to it easily. They take it as that someone from amongst them has done wrong.
Chhapaak has been helmed by Meghna Gulzar, and it stars Vikrant Massey as the male lead. The film has been praised both by critics as well as moviegoers for the incredible portrayal of a story of triumph. Deepika especially, has been lauded for her performance playing Malti: Laxmi’s on-screen version.
