Bollywood Scenes Improvised on Spot:
Movie making is not a one mans job. So many different people come together to create one single movie. A lot of hard work goes into the making of the film. Sometimes, an actor who is playing a character in a film has his perception and imagination regarding a scene that leads to improvisation of the scene. That’s how creative movie-making is, and this creative process makes the most brilliant and memorable.
1. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
The pigeon scene in the movie where Amrish Puri and Shah Rukh Khan feed pigeons is not enacted according to the script. First, SRK comes into the frame and starts feeding pigeons then later, Amrish Puri joins him and starts using “Aao” to feed them. Shah Rukh picked the cue and started following him, and there we had the iconic sequence.
The police station scene in the movie where Rahul Bhatt reports about his missing daughter to the police inspector is just a-minute scene in the script. The actors in the scene managed to create 14-minute banter on screen.
Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha is a thought-provoking film. The scene between Deepika and Ranbir before the song Agar tum Saath ho was improvised! Yes, that’s right. None of it was written and included in the script. Imtiaz Ali calls the scene “Shameful” and “cruel”. He briefly explained the actors about the situation in the scene, and what we see on screen was their way of expressing the character’s emotions. They did not even use glycerine for the scene. It was an emotional and exhausting scene for the entire crew.
The scene where Huma Qureshi and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are sitting by the pond is where an iconic scene happened. This scene is inspired by Nawazunddin’s real-life. In an interview, he shared a similar personal experience from his life, “When I was in the second year I asked a junior to go to a garden with me. We were sitting and then I put my hand on her hand to which she sternly asked me ‘what was I doing’. I simply said ‘touching your hand’ and she said ‘this is illegal’. I forgot everything after that and started imagining myself in jail.”
Shoojit’s Sircar’s explanation of the Knife scene from the film makes the movie more interesting.
According to him, he just gave a brief about the scene to the Amitabh and Irrfan. They were told to do whatever they wanted to with the character without any script. He briefed Deepika to throw the knife at some point when the argument went too far. The hilarious argument between the three was the highlight of the film. Both Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan gave Shoojit what he wanted, and the scene turned out to be pretty magical.
