1. Balika Badhu (1967)
Balika Badhu was a Bengali film initially. It talked about a sensitive topic of child marriage and its consequences. It was later adapted into a Hindi movie with the same name and it won several awards and internal recognition as well.
2. Saheb Bibi Golam(1956)
Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam was India’s entry to Oscars in 1963. This was the movie for which Guru Dutt received a letter from the Academy criticizing showing a woman consuming Alchohol. It was a remake of Bengali 1956 movie Saheb Bibi Golam.
3. Nishi Padma(1970)
Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore starrer Amar Prem was a remake of Nishi Padma. The story portrays selfless and pure love that happens to grow in adverse circumstances.
4. Rajkahani (2015)
Begum Jaan, a Bengali movie, is a story about a brothel that was situated in a village along the Radcliffe Line. Begum Jan desperately wanted to save the brothel during the separation. The Bollywood version starred Vidya Balan as Begum Jaan. It didn’t do so well at the box office.
5. Galpo Holeo Satti (1966)
Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Bachchan starrer Bawarchi is a remake of 1966 Galpo Holeo Satti. It’s an iconic story of a home cook, who is hired by a dysfunctional family. He aims to unite the family with his affection and cleverness.
6. Saat Paake Bandha (1963)
Saat Paake Bandha showcases two professors who fall in love with each other and decide to get married. The marriage soon falls apart due to financial problems. Jaya Bachchan and Vijay Anand starrer Kora Kagaz was a Hindi remake of the same movie.
