Bollywood Movies Capture Kolkata: 

Kolkata got its nickname “city of joy” centuries ago. The beautiful city in west Bengal indicates warmth, hospitality, and happiness. This place will never disappoint you with its uniqueness and culture you will find yourself contempt. Bollywood always had a close relationship with the city of Joy. So many great directors, actors, musicians who are from Kolkatta and are part of Bollywood. The capital of Bengal is beautiful in every sense, and we are not surprised if these directors choose Kolkata over Bombay as their film location. 

 1. Parineeta

Vidya Balan and Saif Ali Khan starrer Parineeta is a musical romantic drama film based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novella. The major chunk of the movie is shot at Calcutta. The film captures the soul and heart of the city of joy and successfully brings it on the big screen. 

 2. Barfi! 

Anurag Basu’s Barfi! is a romantic comedy film that captured a lot of people’s attention. This movie is a visual treat for its viewers. The part of the movie was shot at Kolkata as you can see several scenes in the movie that were shot at Howrah Bridge that gave us the quintessential Kolkatta vibe. 

 3. Kahaani

Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani is a story that revolves around a pregnant woman who comes to Kolkata in search of her husband. The movie takes you into the mysterious and dark lanes of Kolkatta during the festive season of Durga Pooja. 

 4. Lootera

Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha starrer Lootera is based on O. Henry’s short story The Last Leaf. Based on 1950s Calcutta`, the movie beautifully captures the Kolkata vibe. This movie gave us beautiful songs and a story to remember.

 5. Gunday

Ali Abbas Zafar’s action thriller Gunday was set in the 1970’s Kolkata. Ranveer Sing’s and Arjun Kapoor’s characters are seen as the biggest goons of Kolkatta in the film. 

 6. Detective Byomkesh Bakshy

Sushant Singh Rajput starrer Detective Byomkesg Bakshy is a story based on the real-life of the legendary detective set in Kolkatta during the world war 2. This movie is a visual treat with brilliant acting and storytelling. We still don’t know why this movie bombed at the box office. 

 7. Yuva

Mani Ratnam’s Yuva is a story about intense student politics and urban romance. This movie beautifully captures the essence of Kolkatta. This movie was originally titled “Howard Bridge”. It features Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Ajay Devgn as leads.
