You already have a vague idea now that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bharat is slated to release on the same day of India’s first match at World Cup 2019, against South Africa. It was already in public discussion that the movie is set to be the Eid release of this year. The much-awaited movie will be hitting the screens on June 5th, 2019. But an interesting fact is that India’s World Cup 2019 opening match also happens to be on the same day as that of the release, which interprets that we have to wait and watch to see if Bharat rakes in the biggest opening for 2019, or it will suffer due to the huge fan base for cricket.
This fact is worth consideration because it is well known across the world that during match days specially when Indian team is on the ground, everything comes to halt in India. During a F2F with BollywoodLife, Bharat’s co-producer, Atul was queried about the predicted business loss. He replied,
“Nowadays, people have access to new information on the phone every 5 minutes. I am also a cricket fan but a movie buff is a movie buff. We have an intended Eid release and we are catering to the audience who look forward to that. Both Cricket and Bollywood are religion in India, so it will be fine. If Bharat works as per what we have thought, it will definitely pass every test.”
If you remember when Varun Dhawan was asked about Avengers: Endgame hurting the business prospects of Kalank. His reply was of a similar nature. But things went down south and it became a serious point of discussion, later on, that movie’s release dates shall be critically chosen in order to avoid any consequential financial damage caused due to bad planning.
Meanwhile, when it comes Bharat it is an Ali Abbas directorial and an adaptation of 2014’s South Korean film titled Ode to My Father.
