Ayushmann Khurrana started his Bollywood career with an off-beat film, to begin with, Vicky Donor. Bringing the subject of sperm donation with such subtlety and humor that none got offended, in a country where anything and everything can offend anyone. He may have tread his way up a bit slower than others but he never broke his streak to work in films that have a meaning, a message, are entertaining and need to be told. Movies like Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Bareilly Ki Barfi made it apparent that he is here to do quality cinema and will continue to do so.
If among the ladies, Radhika Apte has her name in bold, for the year 2018 belonged to her, among the men, Ayushmann Khurrana took the cake. With movies like Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho, he served us with two of the best movies made in the history of Bollywood, on subjects we didn’t think would work. Every film he takes up, he leaves fans guessing and excited for what’s next for him.
His next film too will fall in the same category as he has now joined hands with Zero director Aanand L Rai to come up with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan sequel titled Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan which will talk about another taboo subject, homosexuality but in a sensitive and a sensible way.
Aanand L. Rai who will be backing the film as a producer said in a statement,
“The success of ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ encouraged us to turn it into a franchise which tackles taboo subjects in the most light-hearted manner. With ‘Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan’, we have a great story in hand and who better, but Ayushmann to play the lead. We hope audiences enjoy it as much as the first film,”
“The Shubh Mangal Saavdhan franchise is our tribute to the churning that keeps our society alive. Every installment will deal with a topic that touches every person but no one wants to speak about it publicly. Like the first film, this one too will broach a taboo subject with great sensitivity and light humour. I anticipate a lot of conversations and cheer around the second film too.”
Ayushmann Khurrana revealing the subject of the film confirmed that it’ll talk about homosexuality. He said,
“It is a beautiful story told in the quintessential Aanand Rai style of filmmaking that will touch your hearts and leave a smile on your face. It is one of the most brilliant films that I have read in a long time and it handles the subject of homosexuality really sensitively,”
He further added,
“It is a pleasure to collaborate again with the master storyteller of our times. It is an out and out entertaining film that will also make you think and that’s the hallmark of good cinema.”
The movie is up for a 2020 release and will go on floors in the last week of August. Unlike the last one of the franchise, this one will be directed by Hitesh Kewalya. Ayushmann currently wrapped up shooting Article 15 and has Dream Girl and Bala in the pipeline.
