The Accidental Prime Minister aka Anupam Kher lands in legal trouble for obvious reasons. On 27th December 2018, the trailer of the most controversial movie so far released and it shook the nation, more the top politicians it out rightly mentioned in the movie without even changing the names and somehow, in a way, challenging them.
Made to be a biopic on India’s former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, it is based on a biography written by Sanjaya Baru, Singh’s trusted aide and press advisor for four years. The book says that it is “An important contribution to contemporary Indian History; it can also be read as a text-book for those who wish to understand how politics and administration actually work in the India of our times.”
Anupam Kher is impersonating the former PM, Dr. Manmohan Singh in the movie and hence, a case has been filed against him for showing the top UPA politicians in poor light and tarnishing their image in public. The case has been filed in Bihar court by Lawyer Sudhir Kumar Ojha against both, Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna who is seen playing the narrator in the movie, Sanjaya Baru.
The Muzzafarpur’s Chief Judicial Magistrate court has accepted the hearing of the case which will take place on January 8 in Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate court. Not just the two lead actors but the director, Vijay Gutte and the producers, Sunil Bohra and Dhaval Gada from Pen Movies have been slapped with case and it looks as if the team kind of knew what they got themselves into and were prepared for something like this to happen.
Not just the legal trouble, the team is also facing issues with the trailer. Anupam Kher on 1st January tweeted that he has been receiving calls and messages from people all over the world claiming that they can’t find the trailer of the movie online, in spite of it trending on YouTube. He tweeted:
Dear @YouTube!!! I am getting messages & calls that in parts of our country if you type, trailer of #TheAccidentalPrimeMinister, it is either not appearing or at 50th position. We were trending at No.1 yday. Please help. #HappyNewYear. #37millionviews 😊https://t.co/TUu4AtaRzk pic.twitter.com/KhoZJuxmmu

The movie takes a straight mud-slinging shot at the India’s first political party, Congress’ current leaders, Sonia Gandhi, her children, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra and insinuates in the trailer, how they used Singh’s face value to collect votes and wasted his potential to serve the country in a much better way than he did.
Satyajeet Tambe Patil, President of the Maharashtra State Youth Congress, sent a letter to the producers demanding a special screening of the movie as he raised objections to “incorrect presentation of the facts” in the trailer and the movie. This legal war was incoming and everybody knew about it.
Many can’t find the trailer online and for them, we have linked it above for you to watch it, if you haven’t already. The film also stars Arjun Mathur as Rahul Gandhi and Aahana Kumra as Priyanka Gandhi. The other characters are – Ajit Satbhai as former PM PV Narasimha Rao, Ram Avatar Bhardawaj as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Divya Seth Shah as Mrs. Gursharan Kaur aka Dr. Singh’s reel wife. The movie is slated to hit the theatres on 11th January, that too, if it releases.
The question remains, is this movie actually an attempt to unveil the truth or is it just another political tactic, an election strategy from the opposition?
