Bollywood’s Khiladi cum Akshay Kumar, who in the past has entertained us in various avatars like a lawyer in Jolly LLB 2 or kickass cop in Rowdy Rathore is now playing a space scientist in his upcoming venture Mission Mangal.
In the beginning there were rumors that Akshay is having an extended cameo in the film, while other actors like Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen, and Sharman Joshi are portraying the central characters but a source close to the film informed Mirror that Akshay is having a full-fledged role, who plays a senior scientist, inspired by the group of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) scientists who worked on the Mars Orbiter Mission.
Below is the exact statement, “Akshay’s character puts the team together and drives them to achieve the goal. It’s more of him being a mentor to the young team.”

#MissionMangal ,a film which I hope will inspire as well as entertain. A film which I’ve done specially for my daughter and children her age to familiarise them with the incredible true story of India’s mission to Mars! I @taapsee @aslisona @balanvidya @sharmanjoshi @nithyamenen @iamkirtikulhari @foxstarhindi #HGDattatreya #CapeOfGoodFilms #HopePictures #JaganShakti @isro.in
This source revealed more, “The premise is based on true events, but the team has taken some creative liberties for cinematic purposes. The mission was successful because of the teamwork, and every character has their moment of glory in the screenplay. It is the story of an underdog team standing tall against all odds.”
Film Production Companies: Cape of Good Films, Hope Productions, and Fox Star Studios have joined hands for Mission Mangal and plan to do the same in the coming future.
Akshay Kumar, R. Balki, Aruna Bhatia, and Anil Naidu are the film’s co-producers.
Meanwhile, Akshay is also recreating 25-year-old ‘Tip Tip Barsa Pani’ from 1994 ‘Mohra’ with Katrina Kaif in Sooryavanshi. While Raveena who was his dance counterpart in this song has recreated ‘Sheher Ki Ladki’ with Sunil Shetty in ‘Khandaani Shafakhaana’.
We all know that Mission Mangal will clash with John Abraham’s Batla House and Prabhas’ Saaho at the box office on August 15th (Independence Day).
