After the much-criticized ‘not so political’ interview of Akshay Kumar with PM Narendra Modi, he has been targeted for one thing or the other. First, that was being seen as his political involvement and now his Canadian Citizenship has become fodder for gossip.
A few days ago, among the many Bollywood celebrities, when Akshay Kumar was found missing from the polling booths, people, no, reporters more so started to poke him about the subject in spite of knowing his citizenship status. This is what enraged him and what followed was a tweet clarifying his stance on the matter and that he finds all this to be unwanted intrusion. To keep the negative publicity away, he posted:
“I really don’t understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about my citizenship. I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport. It is also equally true that I have not visited Canada in the last seven years.”
“I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others.”
“I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger.”
Now, this did not go down well and he was trolled mercilessly on social media. Now, social media, if can be ruthless, it can also bring forward support from hands one does not even imagine to. Well, among the trolls, there were many too who supported Kumar straight for the matter. One of the first Bollywood celebs to come out in support was his co-actor of many movies, Anupam Kher. Not just him, now, even Union Minister (Minister of State of Home Affairs) Kiren Rijiju has spoken in favour of the man who in his opinion is being put on a spot unnecessarily.
He tweeted to Akshay saying that his support to the Bharat Ke Veer remains unconditional. Replying to his tweet, he posted:
“Dear @akshaykumar ji, no one can question your patriotism. Your motivation to our Armed Forces personnel and the way you generated funds for our martyrs through #BharatKeVeer programme will remain an example for every patriotic Indian.”
Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay Kumar is pretty swamped with offers and his upcoming movies. He would be seen opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan after 10 years in Good News which also stars Kiara Advani and Diljit Dosanjh. It is scheduled for 27 December 2019. Then, he has Rohit Shetty’s Sooryavanshi next opposite Katrina Kaif which we will get to see next year on Eid. He also has Farhad Samji’s Housefull 4, and Mission Mangal with Vidya Balan and Taapsee Pannu coming out this year in October and August respectively.
